Howard “Howie” C. Schoof age 71, of Sleepy Eye, died on November 19, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, Minnesota. Visitation will be on Friday, November 24, 2017 from 11 am to 1 pm at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye Chapel. Service will be held at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye Chapel, on Friday, November 24, 2017 at 1 pm. Interment will be at a later date. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. Howard “Howie” Christ Schoof was born February 27th, 1946 in New Ulm, MN to Benjamin and Norma (Iesh) Schoof. He was raised by Len and Florence Iesh and attended St. John Lutheran School in Sleepy Eye, MN. Howie married Connie Tauer of Sleepy Eye in November of 1965. Together they had two children, son, Todd (Heidi) Schoof of New Ulm and daughter, Jeanne (Ty) Shuck of Maiden Rock, WI. They later divorced. Howie then met Rita Wilfahrt and they were joined in holy matrimony on December 27, 2003. Through the years, he worked various jobs throughout the Sleepy Eye community in addition to a lifelong career of farming in rural Sleepy Eye. Howie enjoyed spending time with his wife, Rita. Date night included venturing out driving the country roads and getting a bite to eat. Howie’s greatest passion was his pigeons and chickens. He belonged to the Brown County Pigeon and Poultry Association. He won many awards for his pigeons and took great pride in showing them.
Howie is survived by his wife, Rita of Sleepy Eye, son, Todd (Heidi) Schoof of New Ulm, daughter Jeanne (Ty) Shuck of Maiden Rock, WI, daughter, Danielle (Dan) Ecker of New Ulm, and step-daughter, Tami (Rod) Domeier of New Ulm, 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Howie was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Norma Schoof, caregivers, Len and Florence (Penning) Iesh, brothers, Jerry Schoof, John Schoof and Larry “Ted” Iesh, sister, Lucille Reiderer and nephew, Adam Iesh.
