Leona G. Sellner age 99, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on December 8, 2017, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm and will continue on Friday from 7:30 until 10 am at the Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a parish prayer service at 6:30pm Thursday at the funeral home.
Service will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 10:30 am. The clergy will be Msgr. Eugene Lozinski. Interment will be at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. Condolences may be left at www.sturmfh.com . The family would prefer memorial gifts in lieu of flowers. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.
Leona was born to John & Theresa (Hoffman) Nachreiner on March 5, 1918 at home in Burnstown Township, Brown County, MN. Leona attended School District 65 in Burnstown Township in a one-room school house for seven years and one year at St. Raphael’s Catholic School in Springfield, MN. She was united in marriage to Norbert C. Sellner on October 8, 1940 at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield, MN. They lived and farmed in Prairieville Township until July of 1977 when they moved to Sleepy Eye. Norbert died on January 28, 1978. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Christian Mother’s Society, Catholic Aid Society and CCW. Leona loved the outdoors and would spend her summers working in her vegetable and flower gardens until she reached the age of 97.
She is survived by her daughters, Janet (Reynold) Evenson of Gibbon and Grace (Dale) Hoeper of Madelia, sons, Gerald (Mary) Sellner, David (Kathy) Sellner and Vincent (Judi) Sellner all of Sleepy Eye, 20 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving Leona, sisters-in-law, Theresa Reiniger of Sleepy Eye, Delores Sellner of Sleepy Eye, Bernadette Fischer of Springfield and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Norbert, brothers, Leo, Hugo, Roman and Walter, sisters, Helen, Rose, Ottilia, Lydia and baby sister, Theresa.
