Prairie Lakes is sponsoring a series of Free Artist Workshops on Oct. 18 Artist Statement, Nov. 8 Funding for Artists, and Dec. 6, 2017 Promoting Yourself and Your Art; all on Wednesday nights at 6:00 p.m., at the 410 Project in Mankato. Dana Sikkila, Executive Director of the 410 Project will be the presenter.

October 18, 6-8 p.m. – Artist Statement
Part of an artist’s promotional materials is their Artist Statement. We will use the WORK OF ART, Artist Workbook, from Springboard for the Arts which will be FREE to participants who attend two workshops.
The presenter is Dana Sikkila, who received her MA in Printmaking as well as her Non Profit Leadership Certificate from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Based in Mankato she concentrates on making her art work as well as being Executive Director of the 410 Project, Community Art Space, along with holding an arts adjunct professor position at MNSU, Mankato. Sikkila serves as a board member for the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council, Minnesota Citizen’s for the Arts, as well as a Grant Review Panelist, and Artistic Evaluator for the Minnesota State Arts Board.
November 8, 6-8:30 p.m. – Funding for Artists
At 6:00 p.m. Brenda Byron will present information about Prairie Lakes’ Artist Career Development Grant of $1,000 due January 15, 2018. Topics include: Eligibility Requirements, What Activities can be Funded, How to Complete the Online Application, etc. At 6:30 p.m. presenter Dana Sikkila will discuss other funding opportunities and ideas.
December 6, 6-8 p.m. – Promoting Yourself and Your Art
The Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council funds artist grants.
Individual Artist grant (Deadline is Jan. 15, 2018– $1,000 Career Development).
Funds may be used for: art supplies, matting & framing, equipment, literary editor, music recording, studying with a mentor, attending a workshop, etc. In addition to the online application, artists need to submit their resume and work samples.
