After more than five decades of rides, camaraderie, and generous community support, the Minnesota Driffters Motorcycle Club has officially closed the throttle on an incredible era.
Founded in 1973 by a tight-knit group of motorcycle enthusiasts with a shared passion for riding and giving back, the Minnesota Driffters quickly became a staple of the Sleepy Eye area. Over the years, the club became known not just for their love of the open road, but for their open hearts.
In their 52-year history, the Minnesota Driffters have donated thousands of dollars to countless local causes and organizations, including education scholarships for Sleepy Eye and St. Mary’s High School students, the local FFA, After Prom parties, Emergency Services, Food For Kidz, Junior Achievement, and Park Improvement projects in Sleepy Eye and Cobden along with many other projects. They also stepped up time and again to support individuals facing serious health challenges.
In 2025, the group made the heartfelt decision to bring their long-running journey to a close and make one final round of donations.
This week, longtime members Pat and Dianne Harkin, along with Al Windschitl, presented checks on behalf of the Minnesota Driffters to two meaningful community projects. Scott Krzmarzick, 1st Assistant Chief of the Sleepy Eye Fire Department, accepted a donation for the restoration of the historic 1921 LaFrance fire truck. Another check was given to Mike Hardin, Public Works Director of the City of Sleepy Eye, to help fund new playground equipment.
“It’s the end of an era,” said the group in a farewell statement. “Thank you to all the past and present members and supporters of the Minnesota Driffters. It has made for 52 years of great memories.”
Though the engines may have quieted, the legacy of the Minnesota Driffters will continue to roar through the community for years to come.
