Marvin Michael Windschitl, the son of Michael and Mathilda (Sellner) Windschitl, was born in Comfrey, Minnesota on January 27, 1937. The oldest of five children, Marvin attended Mulligan Township School through the 8th grade and then, as a young teen, he began his life’s work – farming. When he was old enough, Marvin joined the Army National Guard and honorably served his country for six years. He returned home to his roots in Mulligan Township, farming the land with John Deere tractors and raising livestock on what would become a Century Farm.

On October 31, 1964, Marvin was united in marriage to Esther Hoffman, and they were blessed with four children. They raised their family on the farm and celebrated nearly 58 years together when Esther died in 2022.

A longtime member of the Church of Japanese Martyrs, Marvin was very active in the church, and he was a member of Knights of Columbus. For decades he served as Mulligan Township Chairman. In his younger days, Marvin played baseball on the township team. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Sheepshead, and doing word searches.

Lending a hand, pitching in, and helping others came naturally to Marvin. Throughout his lifetime, he helped save lives by donating nearly 19 gallons of blood with the American Red Cross. A quiet and humble man who lived his life behind the scenes, Marvin was a cherished family man who leaves a legacy of hard work, determination, and humility. His presence, both on and off the farm, will be missed beyond measure.

Marvin is survived by his sons, Roman Windschitl of Mankato and Leon (Denise) Windschitl of Worthington; son-in-law, Tim Anderson of Comfrey; grandchildren, Ashley (Justin) Anderson, Nikki (Kent) Van’t Hof, and Dakota Anderson; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Anderson, Ellie Anderson, Baylor Van’t Hof, and Makenna Van’t Hof; brother, Wally Windschitl; many nieces and nephews; and other loving relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; daughters, Marie Windschitl and Monica Anderson; sisters, Phyllis Wersal, Doris Windschitl, and Glady Homan; and several in-laws.
