News from Sleepy Eye Schools Superintendent: Thank you to our School Board!

by Sleepy Eye Schools Superintendent John Cselovszki

September is Minnesota School Board Recognition Month — a time to honor the dedicated individuals who serve as the guiding light for student success in our public schools. School board members in Sleepy Eye Public School serve countless hours to ensure our public school students have access to high-quality learning and extra-curricular opportunities that prepare them for a bright future.

These local leaders are entrusted by our community to oversee a budget of $9 million, support 550 students, lead 125 employees, and steward 1 K-12 building. Their work goes far beyond meetings and policies — they set the vision, shape priorities, and make complex decisions that directly impact our classrooms, our families, and our future.

School boards are charged with making decisions that can sometimes be quite difficult or require sifting through a great deal of information. They also bear responsibility for developing a vision that will guide the school district for years to come. Through collaboration as a team, and with school district staff, their governance and advocacy are building the future of education in Minnesota. They are a steady hand in times of change, a voice for our community, and a beacon guiding our schools toward success. Ultimately, board members help create the conditions where dreams can take root and grow.

This September, I encourage everyone in our community to take a moment to thank a school board member. Their commitment and service are essential to strong schools, vibrant communities, and the foundation of our democracy — public education.

We are proud to recognize the members of the Sleepy Eye Public School Board and their years of service: Adam Barka 3 years, Casey Coulson 15 years, Joleen Dittbenner 13 years, Dan Marti 1 year, Brian Nelson 11 years, Darla Remus 21 years, Sheila Wurtzberger 15 years.
