Mathiowetz scored the first 10 St. Mary’s points and 18 of the first 20 to give the second-seeded Knights a lead they didn’t relinquish en route to a 72-57 victory in the Minnesota State High School League’s 2026 Girls Basketball State Tournament on March 12 at the University of Minnesota’s Maturi Pavilion.<\/p>\n
Mathiowetz had 28 points by halftime, hitting 5 of 8 three-point attempts as St. Mary’s built a 43-33 advantage. She finished with 41 on 14-for-25 shooting and also had eight rebounds and six steals.<\/p>\n
After a fourth-place finish last season, St. Mary’s will attempt to take the next step in a semifinal game Friday at 2 p.m. against either Kelliher\/Northome or Central Minnesota Christian at Williams Arena.<\/p>\n
Mayer Lutheran got 18 points from Hallie Hunter and 13 from Isabella Keaveny.
