Then Sleepy Eye St. Mary&#8217;s junior guard Morgan Mathiowetz took over.<\/p>\n<p>Mathiowetz scored the first 10 St. Mary&#8217;s points and 18 of the first 20 to give the second-seeded Knights a lead they didn&#8217;t relinquish en route to a 72-57 victory in the Minnesota State High School League&#8217;s 2026 Girls Basketball State Tournament on March 12 at the University of Minnesota&#8217;s Maturi Pavilion.<\/p>\n<p>Mathiowetz had 28 points by halftime, hitting 5 of 8 three-point attempts as St. Mary&#8217;s built a 43-33 advantage. She finished with 41 on 14-for-25 shooting and also had eight rebounds and six steals.<\/p>\n<p>After a fourth-place finish last season, St. Mary&#8217;s will attempt to take the next step in a semifinal game Friday at 2 p.m. against either Kelliher\/Northome or Central Minnesota Christian at Williams Arena.<\/p>\n<p>Mayer Lutheran got 18 points from Hallie Hunter and 13 from Isabella Keaveny.
