She grew up with one sister, Joyce, in the Sleepy Eye area. She was a proud graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Sleepy Eye.

She was united in marriage to Jerome Lux in 1952 at St. Mary’s Church in a large wedding as both were the youngest in their families. They established the Lux family farm in Leavenworth Township in Brown County. Raising 8 children and expanding the family farm, there were many memorable times. The hard work the family shared together created a bond that’s everlasting. Like many young mothers at the time, she worked part-time at the Orchid Inn to supplement the income. She was the kind of neighbor that would “drop everything to help out”. In 1981, when Jerome was called home to heaven, it was her determination and keen sense of business, along with her oldest son Michael’s work ethic that kept the farm thriving through very challenging ag economic times.

In 1989 she married Richard Schouvieller in a special chapel her Great-Grandfather Joseph Pohlen had built in Wanda, MN. They lived on Richard’s farm outside of Morgan for several years. With Richard, her extended family grew bigger, but her heart was always large enough for more family members. She quickly became an important member of the Morgan community, volunteering whenever needed. One of her favorite things to do was to help the ladies at the retirement home with their hair, nails, and lipstick. She could see the sense of pride it brought them. She was able to spend more time with her sister Joyce, as she and Richard had a winter home in Arizona, next to Joyce and Earl. In 2020, Richard was called to heaven, and eventually she moved to Lake Villa Maria at Divine Providence in Sleepy Eye.

It was at Lake Villa that she was able to express her deep faith daily, with Mass and prayer services. She became a soul mate with any of the residents she met. She had no boundaries to any of her friendships. Her daily ambition was simple- “Brighten the lives of the people you meet!” She will be dearly missed by all. Blessed be her memory.

She is survived by all her children, Mike (Barb) Lux, Diane (Leroy) Radtke, Dennis (Kathy Jo) Lux, Mary Kay (Randy) Distad, Jim (Rhonda) Lux, John (fiancé, Kari Scholtz) Lux, Barb (Keith) Kerkhoff, Becky (Craig) Hoffbeck. Her sister Joyce, nephew Larry Nelson, 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Verna, husbands Jerome and Richard, Brother-in-Law Earl, and many other brothers and sisters-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lake Villa Maria are preferred.

Phyllis M.
