Sleepy Eye Medical Center is excited to welcome Gavin Maurer, M.D.,
\nto its medical staff this summer, further strengthening its long-standing commitment to
\nserving patients and families across the region.<\/p>\n
This addition reflects SEMC\u2019s continued investment in expanding comprehensive rural
\nhealthcare services and ensuring long-term access to high-quality care within the
\ncommunities it serves.<\/p>\n
Dr. Maurer is a board-certified family medicine physician with expertise in comprehensive
\nprimary care, obstetrics, as well as colonscopy procedures. He provides full-spectrum
\nobstetric care, including prenatal care, delivery, and Cesarean sections, helping ensure
\nfamilies can access safe, locally available maternity services.<\/p>\n
SEMC Administrator Todd Consbruck said the addition reflects the organization\u2019s
\ncontinued commitment to sustaining and advancing rural healthcare in Minnesota.
\n\u201cRural healthcare continues to face challenges, but our commitment to this community
\nand region remains strong,\u201d said Consbruck. \u201cDr. Maurer\u2019s experience, broad scope of
\npractice, and passion for rural medicine make him an important addition to our team as we
\ncontinue strengthening access to high-quality care for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
A Minnesota native who grew up on a hog farm near Morgan, Dr. Maurer brings both a deep
\nunderstanding of rural life and a strong sense of purpose to his work.<\/p>\n
\u201cI grew up on a farm in the area, so this has always felt like home for me. We love being
\nclose to family and never planned to live or work anywhere else,\u201d said Dr. Maurer. \u201cRural
\nareas need good healthcare but continue to be underserved. I\u2019ve always felt a calling to be
\na part of that mission to keep healthcare strong in rural Minnesota.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dr. Maurer has cared for patients in the surrounding area for nearly six years, most recently
\nwith CentraCare in Redwood Falls. He said he was drawn to SEMC because of its culture,
\nvalues, and continued investment in comprehensive rural care.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was looking for a place that took pride in caring for their community\u2014somewhere with an
\nestablished culture that felt like a family and a team where people care deeply for each
\nother and their patients,\u201d said Dr. Maurer. \u201cIt\u2019s also a place where I can continue to practice
\nfull-spectrum family medicine, including obstetrics, emergency medicine, hospital
\nmedicine, and colonoscopy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dr. Maurer is especially passionate about preserving strong obstetrical care in rural
\ncommunities and understands firsthand the importance of having those services available
\nlocally.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur firstborn was born by c-section at 2 a.m. in a rural hospital during the first week of
\nRPAP (Rural Physician Associate Program) in my third year of medical school,\u201d he said.
\n\u201cHaving that OB care available in the community is essential\u2014it is convenient and often
\nsafer. Caring for a mom and getting to know her whole family through a pregnancy is a lot of
\nfun. To be part of the joy families experience when welcoming a new life is really special.\u201d<\/p>\n
Consbruck said Dr. Maurer\u2019s ability to provide a broad range of services will help SEMC
\ncontinue meeting the evolving healthcare needs of the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cPhysicians with Dr. Maurer\u2019s scope of practice are invaluable to rural healthcare,\u201d said
\nConsbruck. \u201cHis ability to provide care across multiple settings strengthens local access to
\nservices and helps ensure families can continue receiving exceptional care in their own
\ncommunities.\u201d<\/p>\n
At the center of Dr. Maurer\u2019s approach to medicine is a philosophy rooted in compassion,
\nrelationships, and whole-person care.<\/p>\n
\u201cI always strive to care for people the same way I would want my own family cared for,\u201d said
\nDr. Maurer. \u201cSo, of course, I hope they feel they receive good medical care, but also that
\nthey are cared for as a whole person.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dr. Maurer earned his undergraduate degree from Bethel University and completed medical
\nschool at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He completed his Family Practice Residency
\nat the Sioux Falls Family Practice Residency Program in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.<\/p>\n
Outside of medicine, Dr. Maurer enjoys spending time with his wife, Jamie, and their three
\nchildren. He is a believer in Jesus and active in their local church. He also enjoys hunting\u2014
\nparticularly big game.<\/p>\n
