It\u2019s official! Summer is here. The hallways of our schools are a little quieter\u2014but not for long! The summer Community Education newsletter is complete and in distribution! All PreK-6 grade students in the district received a hard copy in their school backpack. What an incredible number of opportunities to keep our school age learners BUSY!<\/p>\n
Tennis Camp<\/strong> is for students in grades 2-7 and runs June 9-July 2. Players from around the area are welcome. Time is devoted to skill development and learning the game. Kids Day Camp<\/strong> features a different theme each week and includes a snack, craft, literacy time and STEM activity. Featured themes include Space, Camping, Under the Sea and Around the World. These day camps are available to all area elementary aged students.<\/p>\n We are co-sponsoring with U of M Extension office for the 4 H Build It Camp<\/strong>\u2014a hands on woodworking experience for students in grades 3-6. Those interested in this class should register online at: extension.umn.edu\/about-4-h\/learn-more-or-join. A new class offered June 22 is our Twisty Balloon<\/strong> Workshop <\/strong>for students age 7-10. This hands-on interactive workshop teaches the fundamentals of balloon twisting while creating fun memories! Class size is limited, so register soon!<\/p>\n Students in grades 2-9 have their moment to shine in the Community Education and Sleepy Eye Community Theater Junior collaboration of Disney Descendants the Musical! <\/em><\/strong>This week-long theater camp has had tremendous participation in the past, and this summer is no exception! Auditions were recently held and over 80 local children have been cast! The talent showcased each year\u2014both on and behind the stage is simply amazing. Mark your calendars for July 24 and 25 performances!<\/p>\n Our ECFE will once again offer Story Stroll<\/strong> and Book Wagon<\/strong> to keep our littlest learners engaged. PreK Summer school and ECFE mobile screening is also available. Check out the ECFE website and social media pages for more information.<\/p>\n If you have a teen driver with a permit that will need Behind the Wheel<\/strong> instruction this summer; email or call to get them on the schedule. Six hours of instruction are required to obtain the white card needed to take the road test for their license.<\/p>\n Community wide sponsored programs also featured in our newsletter include the Dyckman Library summer reading program, the Sleepy Eye Family Aquatic Center swim lessons and night swims, the U of M Southwest Research and Outreach Summer Soil to Supper and Prairie Detectives Camps, MN Twins Youth Baseball Clinic, Fox 9 Town Ball Tour, Sleepy Eye Community Party in the Park, Ride Safe, Ride Smart Motorcycle Safety Program\u2014just to name a few! Whew! Summer is here, but that doesn\u2019t mean we stop learning!
