Bikers busted by police

The Sleepy Eye Police Department has been “catching” kids wearing their helmets for a few weeks now as a part of the Bike Safety Program put on by the Sleepy Eye Medical Center and the Sleepy Eye Police Department.
The children in our community were educated at school about bike safety, provided with helmets, and participated in a “Bike Rodeo” event where they practice their bike safety skills on a controlled course. This program is fun for all involved and as a reward for being “caught” wearing their helmets the children receive a “ticket” for a free ice cream cone to redeem at our local Dairy Queen.
The ice cream “tickets” used to be provided by the State of Minnesota, but for the last few years, our local Dairy Queen has graciously continued to donate these free rewards to the kids. We want to thank the owners of the Sleepy Eye Dairy Queen for choosing to continue to participate in this rewarding program. Without their donation this fun incentive for the children practicing bike safety would not be possible.
Thank you Sleepy Eye Dairy Queen for supporting such an important and fun safety program in our community
