Community Education Update 11/21

The holidays are upon us! Twinkling lights can be seen on storefronts, homes and of course at the park! We are so fortunate for those dedicated members of the Holiday Lights in Motion committee and the volunteers that make it happen. Sleepy Eye is a holiday destination in December!

Because the holiday season seems to ramp up the schedules on our personal calendars, the community education department dials it back a notch to allow you to enjoy the season. But it also helps us gear up for all the activities we have planned for the new year! We are currently putting together our winter/spring brochure that will be filled with opportunities for all our learners—from babies, school age learners, young professionals and our vibrant retirees! Be on the lookout for that mid-January! We will post it on our school website and also have it available for anyone that requests a hardcopy. Just reach out and we can get one mailed or emailed to you.

Our ECFE staff and early learners are wrapping up their fall classes and events. The Mommy & Me Cooking Class on November 7 served up some yummy treats! Open gym on November 15 provided the chance for the little ones to play, move, and explore in a safe, fun environment. Next up is the Holly Jolly Holiday event on Friday, December 12. Holiday themed activities, cookies, crafts and games will be showcased during this fun event. Please preregister by emailing Megan at megan.koenigs@sleepyeye.mntm.org or calling our community education office line at 507-794-7873.

Defensive Driver Courses will take a hiatus and resume in March. Developed by the Minnesota Safety Council and conducted throughout the state, Defensive Driver teaches preventative measures to use when driving that saves lives. Spring dates are scheduled for Thursday, March 19 at 1:00 pm, Thursday, April 16 at 5:00 pm and Thursday, May 7 at 1:00 pm.

Our second Driver’s Education 30-hour classroom course will take place right after we return to school in January. Parents should reach out if they would like their child enrolled in the winter/spring class.

Wishing each of you a blessed Christmas and wonderful start to the new year.
