EDA News
Kurk Kramer, Economic Development Authority Coordinator
The EDA Board met on May 24.
In Old Business, I reported to the Board that the old gutter and downspout were replaced on the 108 West Main Street building by Starry Nights Woodworking. They also boarded up the north doorway on the building as someone kicked in the existing door. For anyone interested, this building remains “for sale” by the EDA. Please contact me if you would like to take a look at the building. I also updated the Board on the status of a couple of other Main Street buildings that the EDA has been involved in.
In the New Business of the meeting, most of the time was spent discussing the early childcare situation in town considering the closing of Little Sprouts Learning Center and what that might mean for our community in the coming weeks, months, and years. Numerous scenarios were talked about, and at this time the Board is going to see if anything might develop in the private sector as there are some new providers in the process of opening. However, this is a very important matter for consideration and will continue to be a matter of concern for the EDA to monitor.
The Yard of the Month contest will once again be part of the summer programs in Sleepy Eye. Nominations for June have been submitted and the winner for the Month of June is the St. Mary’s School Campus. Congratulations go out to those involved!
Sleepy Eye has a second giant Adirondack chair, added to the attractions in Sportsmen’s Park. It offers another location for a “photo op” for residents and visitors. This chair was funded by awarded grant money and was no cost to the tax payers.
